Australian Consul General Benson Saulo and the Western Australia Trade Delegation had a great conversation with Marty Goossen (Vice Chair, JP Morgan Private Bank), discussing the important trade and investment links between the United States and Australia. They highlighted the special connections that link Western Australia to Texas and explored future opportunities for growth and partnership.
After the creation of the United States-Australia Free Trade Agreement in 2005, trade between the two countries flourished and the United States is now Australia’s largest source of foreign direct investment and fourth largest trading partner. Trade and investment has also grown rapidly between the U.S. and the resource rich Australian state of Western Australia.
Comprising nearly one third of Australia’s total land area, Western Australia is home to many of the natural resources that power the global economy. It is the world’s leading producer of iron ore and among the world leading producers of LNG, lithium, bauxite, cobalt and many other rare-earth elements. Despite being only one tenth of the population of Australia, the state accounts for over half of all Australian exports.
